MetroSonic Spotlight: Michael Stosic

Hailing from Reno, Nevada, Singer-Songwriter Michael Stosic is on the verge of another musical breakthrough with his upcoming album! The album, Welcome Home, will be comprised of some of his most emotionally charged lyrics and has a release date of early 2016.

Stosic’s musical career began back in 1986 in the Gospel music world when he recorded his first Contemporary Christian album titled “Brand New Love”, which became an instant hit with listeners on the West Coast due to play from Spirit 105.3FM KCMS Radio. Soon after the release of his debut album, Stosic’s second album “Symphony of Praise” reached listeners all across America and 118 other countries including Communist China. The success and response to Michael Stosic’s songs in the Christian music world became evident to him after the release of his third studio album “Psalms of the Heart” in 1992, where he started receiving letters and phone calls from fans across America who gave him praise for his music.

Live@Metrosonic presents: Kaleta ft. Zozo Afrobeat, Friday June 12 8pm

On June 12th, MetroSonic will proudly be presenting another installment of Live@Metrosonic! This time around we will be featuring the amazing sounds of Kaleta ft. Zozo Afrobeat, along with DJ sets from Peter Matson of Underground System, as well as announcing an amazing contest for Indie bands!
Kaleta is an artist that is truly taking the Afrobeat movement by storm and bringing it to the next level! Born in The Republic of Benin, Leon Ligan-Majek earned the name ‘Kaleta’ while mastering his musical skills. Relocating at a young age to near by Nigeria, Kaleta set out with the goal to play with one of his idols, King Sunny Adé and then soon after he played with the pioneer and creator of Afrobeat: Fela Kuti.
Once again relocating to New York City, Kaleta put together and leads the band Zozo Afrobeat, who are at the forefront of the Afrobeat revival. Zozo Afrobeat (which is comprised of members from all over the world including America, West Africa, South Africa, Poland, and Spain) have made an art out of combining Benino-Nigerian rhythms with American Jazz and Funk!
Backing this highly anticipated performance we will be welcoming DJ Peter Matson! Matson is the cofounder and guitarist for Experimental Afrobeat band Underground System and is sure to be showcasing the best of what Afrobeat has to offer.
The details for the Live@MetroSonic Video Contest will be released very soon/in time for the June 12th show. The contest will end on our Live@MetroSonic event that is yet to be announced in July. Come back here soon or check out our FacebookTwitter, or Instagram in the coming days for more information.
See the show live by buying your tickets above or watching the live broadcast on MetroSonic’s Homepage and MetroSonic’s YouTube!

The Coffin Daggers Make Live Analog Recording Look Easy

Since the beginning of time, music has been synonymous with the musician’s imagination. It often translates or transcends the very wide spectrum of the human psyche, making it hard for people to not be drawn towards it… Or at least that’s how I felt during The Coffin Daggers stay at MetroSonic!

Hailing straight out of New York, The Coffin Daggers are Viktor Venom – guitar; Rob Morrison – keyboards & guitar, Peter Klarnet – Bass, and Pete Martinez -Drums, who all aim to rejuvenate the iconic Surf Punk genre with a psychedelic twist. With their sound resembling something out of a Quentin Tarantino soundtrack mixed in with your local Freak Show Circus, The Coffin Daggers were the perfect subjects for the all analog live recordings that we love to do. The combination of their live performance, classic equipment, and recording straight to tape truly captures the essence of this band’s dynamic sound. From playback of the very first takes, it was clear to see (or hear) how their music truly benefits from an all analog production process.

January was a pretty exciting month here at MetroSonic! We had some great events to ring in the New Year, welcomed back a talented assistant to the MetroSonic team, and saw a return of our friend Rob Caggiano (Anthrax, The Damned Things, Volbeat, all around guitar expert).

We first met Rob back in 2010 when he came into MetroSonic with the Heavy Metal Super-Group called The Damn Things, which was comprised of some of the best musical talents this generation knows and once again in 2011 while he was the lead guitarist for Anthrax; This time he comes into the studio as Producer for Comedian Jim Breuer!

For those who have been living under a rock for the past 20 year: Jim Breuer started his career in the early 90’s on a show called “Uptown Comedy Club” where he became a true comedy stand-out and moved on to Saturday Night Live where he was also a stand-out and had recurring roles like Joe Pesci on the Joe Pesci Show, the brother of High School Goth/Prince of Sorrows Azrael Abyss’ jock brother Glenn, and one of the most iconic characters in SNL history, the half man/half goat, MTV VeeJay: Goat Boy.

An Inside Look at Gorilla Chief’s Stay at MetroSonic

Earlier we brought to light some info on Garage Rock band Gorilla Chief‘s latest production for their upcoming EP. Well, we at MetroSonic are proud to announce that the work done here is on the verge of being wrapped!
The New York based Garage Rock trio did all of their basic tracking together in our live room and we used some of our most sought out vintage microphones to capture their great live sound, including an RCA 44 prototype and a SONY C37. For one of the songs we used our large room to capture the 2nd guitar using our Silvertone Amp, placing the microphone at a distance, resulting in a HUGE natural room sound that suited the grittiness of the band sound beautifully.
Here are some Behind The Scenes pictures of the band hard at work here in the studio with our Chief Engineer, Pete Mignola!

All Analog Recording With Gorilla Chief

Gorilla Chief visited MetroSonic today to record 3 new songs for their upcoming EP. The session was 100% Analog, making use of our Ampex tape machine, and tracked directly to 2” tape.
